Hey BBQ Gang!
I'm Jim "Rhino" Reincke; Crew Chief of Bandit BBQ Crew, Founder of the Illinois BBQ Society, and owner of The Good-One Chuckwagon (trailered version of The Rodeo Smoker & The Lonestar Grill).
I've cooked on The Good-One since June of 2007 and cannot think of a more versatile, easy-to-operate, solid cooker I would rather use. We compete on the KCBS circuit, have had decent success, and a lot of it has come because of the ease of use of The Good-One.
If you're ever in Southern Illinois, give me a shout...let's talk barbeque!
Carpe 'Que,
Jim Rhino
Hey all, Mike here from AZBarbeque. Great new Forum site here. Hope to get to know lots of you better. If you are looking to travel to Arizona for a competition, PM me, we have contests scheduled throughout the year.
I just had a new custom made Diamondplate trailer built for me with a Lone Star Charcoal Grill from the Good One on it. I LOVE it.
See you all on the Forum...
Hello all,
Mathew from Edgar County Food & Beverage checking in. I took a class from Chris which peaked my interesing in The Good One. We then formed a competition BBQ team after I told my wife I wanted to compete and then told my old high school buddy the same thing. Next thing you know, our wives and we were cooking at the Royal last year on my friend's open range and a few other cookers. We were fortunate enough to get a call and so the bug hit. I bought a Marshall on the way back from KC and that's where we stand today. We are small-time. We only do a few competitions a year but a lot of backyard cooking. Bottom line we love Barbeque and we love The Good One for it's efficiency.
We are leaving for the Royal tomorrow morning...which is probably why I can't sleep tonight. Stop by for a cold one if you are in town or maybe we will catch you on down the road.
Mathew
Hey Mike...Great seeing you here! Good to know we run in the same circles. :)
Hi Mathew...good meeting you...best of luck at the AR!!
Hello from the soggy NW,
I am the proud owner of an Open Range that I purchased after researching many other manufactures. Not too long ago I was smoking on a Brinkman dreaming of a Traeger but thankfully realized I am not a fill the hopper with pellets and forget it kinda person.
I really hope this forum does well because not all smokers are the same. UDS,DBS,ECB,WBS holy acronym sometimes I want someone to tell me if a 40# pig will fit in an Open Range.
Brian from WA
I own an Open Range grill and all my neighbors love me. I sometimes start my cooking at 6:00 a.m. and by noon, half a dozen neighbors have already stopped by wondering what's on the grill! Love it. I've had it for over a year now and just about every weekend I try to find something new to cook. BTW, I'm looking for a good rib rack that runs almost the width of the Open Range so I can stand up whole slabs of baby backs. Preferably holding 5 or 6 slabs. I think this is a great idea starting a forum like this. Good Luck to all!
My name is Terry (Jughead) I have had my Good One "Marshall" for about 11 months. I've been enjoying it and my neighbors enjoy the free food I give up each time.
I'm still learning a little at a time. I have not tried competition yet and may never but have a good time smoking and learning different technics and different foods.
I live in Lenexa, Ks
Thanks
Hey guys, Greg here from the Naughty Nurses BBQ team. I got my Good One 30-P (Open Range) about 3 1/2 years ago and my Rodeo about 6 months ago. I look forward to learning and sharing cooking tips here.

I`m Pierre Öxell from Helsingborg in Sweden and im using a Marshall smoker.I have use it for about 6 months and im very satisfied thit it. I have tryd many brand, byt i can say this is one of best smokers on the market.(sorry for my english)
Hi everyone, I am Dave(Grumpy) from Lenexa KS. I have had my Good-One open range almost 2 years. I am mostly just backyard cooking but have done a few competitions with a couple of guys who also own Good-Ones( 1 open range and 1 a marshall). I am hoping to upgrade to a bigger smoker and do more competing in the future, but with 3 kids all in activities and me coaching a soccer and a softball team weekends are a little busy right now. Thanks guys, looking forward to learning what I can from this forum and sharing any tips i can.
I am Mac Steele from Greenville, SC. I learned about the good one from http://www.bbqisland.com. AZBarbeque Mike puts on a great show and is doing so again in December. I thought I liked smoking food on my Traeger and then I met Christopher Marks and Paul Cox from The Good One last March out in AZ and I fell in love. I just got a reverse lid Open Range 2 months ago and I love it. Still figuring some different things out like why my chickens cook slower on the lower rack than on the top. Hopefully this will be the place to get all my novice questions answered. Thanks.
Excuse me. I meant http://www.bbqislandinc.com. Thanks.
Howdy Smokers. We are BBQ Island Inc, a BBQ specialty store in Tempe AZ. I'm excited to join the Good One forum. We carry a lot of different smokers in our Store, but there's only one that we cook on... The Marshall! The Good One has become our standard for great barbecue! We're proud to carry their line of smokers/grills. We're hoping Christmas comes early this year; because we have the Chuckwagon on order and we can't wait to break it in at our First Annual Tempe Que n' Brew on December 5th.
Contact us if you're a Good One owner in the Phoenix area.

Good to see a place where everyone can share info/stories, etc... I'm Mitch, just a regular guy (no comps, just backyard fun) that has been que'n ever since a buddy demonstrated the difference between charcoal and gas. I gave up the propane grill 9 years ago and moved onto an offset smoker and kettle grill (still have the Weber Kettle, love it). I recently (2 months ago) purchased an Open Range and have been getting used to the intricacies (absolutely love the spinners!). Today I am modifying my smoker a bit: I am adding a wire mesh to the charcoal grate as I am tired of the lump coal falling through the grate. Seems like I get a lot of smaller pieces that aren't used efficiently. Anyone else have issues with this? I will let you know how it works out. Overall, I enjoy the experience and look forward to getting to know ya'll.
Hi,
I am the guy that did all the performance testing for Chris and Rob. The reports are posted on the Good-one site. I know everything there is to know about these smokers, so if you need techncial advice, post it here to my attention, and I am sure I can help. I take cooking advice/secrets in exchange for technical advice!

Nice to see a Good-One forum! I'm Rob from Border War Smokers. I've had my Rodeo for about a year and we use it in competitions for everything but chicken. I look forward to contributing to the collective knowledge of the group.
I am Steve Corley, from Little Rock, Arkansas. I have been cooking on an Open Range since about 1996 or so. It has been a great grill. I am on my second ash pan and have sand blasted and repainted it with high temperature paint once. It has cooked many a Turkey and about a ton of ribs over the years. I still use a 1963 model portable kitchen grill for quick steaks and burgers, but break out the Open Range for the big jobs.
Jeff Kruske from Overland Park, KS. I bought the 42-24 model, which I think is what is referred to as the Rodeo model now, back in 2006. A great smoker. We earned a 5th place finish in pork butt in our first ever competition (Shawnee Great Grillers). I've been very pleased with it so far!
Hey Everyone. I'm Steve (Kerrdog) Kerr from Bucyrus, KS. I've owned a Good-One 30-P Open Range for a number of years. I've done some competitions, but mostly back yard stuff. I went to an open house where the original owner was doing a demo. I had a vertical smoker I'd bought from SAMS. However after watching him cook on the Good-One, I was sold. Still trying to perfect my briskets, but ribs chicken and butts turn out good.
Hello all. I have the reverse Patio Smoker. I love it! I live west of Chicago in Warrenville Illinois. Have met Chris and Bill at the Backyard BBQ Store. Jim from the Illinois BBQ group was there also. Pork Butt is my favorite but I have also done Brisket and Ribs. I have found that lump charcoal is easier to control than regular charcoal. Keep smoking em.
Hi, I'm Joe from Hobbs, NM and I have a 42-24 (Rodeo) that I bought used in 2005. It is a great design and well built. Hope to find someone who would like to enter some contests this spring.
Hi all from Wisconsin,
Up until very recently, I was employed at BBQ's Pit-n-Spits in Appleton. I have had the pleasure to be around The Good One Smokers for 2 years. I bought an Open Range for the home in 2008. I also own a BGE, and I have to tell you, there is no comparison when it come to a pit smoker with the quality of The Good One, vs The Egg. It changed the way I use both units.
I have also had the pleasure to learn from Chris on the 2 different weekends he and Tammy came to Wi.
This is a great product, with awesome customer service & support. I hope Ace of Hearts never loses sight just how important that support and service is!!
Keep up the great work, and Thank-You for the forum.
Rex

Hey guys, just bought an Open Range at Backyard Bash in Parkville, MO today thanks to my wife's generous anniversary gift. I've observed a couple of friends smoke on a Good One in the past, but I'm a novice myself so was glad to see this site and forum. I can't wait to try it! Now if we could just get some decent weather here in KC!

just bought an open range in sept. 09. still experimenting with it. especially keeping the charcoal going, and understanding the vents and such. having a blast though.
I have had my Marshall for about 2 months and have really enjoyed it. I took a class with Chris in Dallas at Lone Star Backyard and bought my Marshall after the class.
Been BBq'ing for a long time but never enjoyed the success I have now with my Good One.
Smoked 2 butt's 2 briskets, 2 whole chickens and 3 racks of ribs yesterday. They turned out great. Can't wait to smoke something else next weekend.
