It is important that you keep the ash pan clean. This is done by keeping the ashes out of the ash pan I'm serious about keeping the ashes out of the smoker. Don't let ash sit in there for long periods of time. Ash absorbs water and oil and will cause rusting in your fire box ash pans.

I picked up a lo-profile squeegie and added an extension to the handle. It makes it easy to keep the bottom of the fire box clean. I also put heavy duty foil in the ash pan when I am grilling. It keeps the grease out of the bottom and makes for a easy clean up as well. If the bottom of the fire-box and the ash pan arent kept clean The Good-One wont last a long time like it was intended. Besides that, they are designed for the clean up to be very easy there is just no excuse to neglect your pit!

When I grill in the fire-box I will line the ash pan with HD foil. This way there is no grease in the bottom of the pan for when I smoke the next time. I keep the damper wide open and the smoker box spinner wide open during grilling.
